Starting or buying a business in Australia for foreigners

I’ve written an excellent guide if you’re looking to create or buy a business in Australia, particularly as a foreigner or person without residency or citizenship. This will provide you with some helpful tips and advice to assist you through the process.

Some background

I’m Joshua. I’m an Australian eCommerce guy. This blog of mine has been running since 2011 that details the courses, tools and resources that have been influential in my journey. Today, I own a range of successful eCommerce businesses. These are businesses that you can start from anywhere in the world, not just Australia. I could’ve started these businesses from any continent if I didn’t yet have residency. I thoroughly believe Amazon is the best opportunity to build a sustainable business in the world.

The great news!

If you’re a foreigner, I’m excited to tell you that you can start, buy or run an existing business in Australia. It can be in a company structure, a partnership, sole trader structure or trust structure. There are some things that you’ll need first…

• The right visa
• A health assessment
• A business and / or marketing plan
• Preferably some assets and past business experience
• Capital reserved for your first few months in Australia

If you want to go a step further and apply for Australian Citizenship, then you’ll need to be of good character. That is, you have ‘enduring moral qualities of a person’, and someone that is likely to uphold and obey the laws of Australia. You can only achieve Citizenship after holding Permanent Residency for some time.

The not-so great news!

The process of buying or starting a business in Australia isn’t easy. It isn’t too hard, but it does have some challenges. Even for us locals, you’ll find some real bureaucratic hoops that you need to jump through. I wish things were easier, but they’re not.

An excellent alternative

The best alternative I can provide right now is to start a business on Amazon. I’m providing you here on this page a FREE 4-part video training course on how to do exactly that. The summary

Australian’s love being business owners, and there’s plenty of room here for everyone to play. Foreigners can buy and own businesses in Australia, provided you apply and receive your Visa first. You’re most welcome to come and join the party. It’s not exactly an easy process, but trust us, it’ll be worth it!
