Literably Review: Can You Make Some Coin?

There are a lot of online tutoring job portals around and Literably is one of them…but is it actually genuine? I felt it necessary to research this further.

I’ve built quite a following right here on the blog. I’ve been working from home now for a few years right off the laptop. Sometimes by the poolside too!

One thing is for sure: This doesn’t come easy. You need to work for it. I do share some great opportunities where you are open to learning today.

But more on that later.

Because today I’m looking at the potential of earning $30/hour for tutors looking to use Literably through this review. Is it possible? Let’s find out!

Literably review

The internet has literally changed the world over the last 20 years.

Before that, the opportunities to work from home were far and few between.

Luckily, there are just so many jobs now that you can do from home. It’s amazing!

There are popular platforms where you can earn a few dollars here and there.

One such example is Literably. Freelancers are jumping on to this daily.

And it’s easy to see why – the potential of a reliable side gig from home.

Ideal for those in the United States, Australia, Canada and the UK.

In fact, Literably has tutors even in Europe – despite the time difference.

And their tutors are making good money actually. Enough for a part-time gig.

But not quite the $30/hour we might expect. That’s hard to do with a job, really.

How does it work?

With this platform, you’re helping 3 different people:

  1. Children to improve their reading skills
  2. The teachers so they can do their jobs easier
  3. Parents who would love to see their children excel

And so what happens is that a child reads online scripts through the Literably App.

This then gets recorded for later processing by the tutor, if you choose to do it.

If you choose to work with Literably, then you’re a transcriptionist. That’s all.

What you’ll be doing is taking note of ommissions in their writing and errors.

Literably Review

There won’t be any direct contact with the students themselves. This makes it easy.

So you can actually work in the time that suits you best. Evenings? Weekends? Yes!

Teachers appreciate it as they can offload some of their already heavy workloads.

Most importantly, the kids can see immediate feedback via their results portal.

Essentially you’re just a digital empire – relaying scores for the individual students.

You’ll have to write out the errors that they have made. Do this kindly of course.

A lot of people find this work to be easy, but also quite boring. Because it is!

Job requirements of Literably Scorers

If you’re looking to make a start as a ‘tutor’ with Literably, then you’ll need this:

  1. A solid grasp of English, preferably as a 1st language
  2. Strong listening and typing abilities, especially with kids
  3. Reliable computer, internet connection and headphones
  4. Able to dedicate 5 to 15 hours per week for this cool side gig
  5. Happy to work on your own and in isolation from home

That’s pretty well it. You don’t even need to work from home either.

I know people travelling the world cheaply and doing this part-time.

Like backpackers who actually earn some money.

It’s all possible if you know where to start!

Personally, I prefer building my own business.

Where I can control my own hours and work schedule.

Earning potential

The problem with Literably is that the pay is low. Like $10/hour. It’s just not enough.

While yes, it is a legit way to make some money, it’s just on the low-end.

Because you know that you deserve to paid a whole lot more, right?

Like you’ve got the experience and know-how on how to do this properly.

But unfortunately, you don’t need any experience at all for this role.

For that reason, there are just so many job applicants going in every day.

It’s highly competitive and many people just don’t get on the inside.

Even if they do, it’s only a few hours per week. Hardly worth much at all!

But at least you will get regular payments if they choose you.

If you’re looking at $30/hour and upwards, I’d recommend a business.

You know – the type that you own. You start it all from scratch.

Better alternatives

I choose Amazon as my vehicle to build an online business from home.

And with this, you certainly don’t need any experience.

The best part is that my good friend Stephen has free training.

He’s put together quite an awesome package actually.

In fact, he’s got almost 5,000 students right on the inside.

All keen, motivated and inspired to make a change in their life.

And actually build the business of their dreams, through Amazon FBA.

Closing thoughts on Literably

If you’re looking for a simple gig with no overheads which you can do from home, then this is a good one.

They accept international applications, as long as your English is very good.

Literably Australia, Canada and United Kingdom is growing monthly. New Zealand will be next.

It’s a good choice if you’re a young adult student and looking to help children.

Unfortunately the earning potential is too limited for me. I’m looking for a proper income.

Something which I can start from home and grow over time. That’s a proper gig for me.
