Build Your Empire University Review: Brodie’s BYEU a Scam?

Published: February 2021

Last Updated: January 2023

So let me guess….

You found Build Your Empire University

Otherwise known as BYEU by Brodie Nitro

(His real name is Brodie Salnitro)

An education platform booming big-time

Across Australia, the US and the UK

And you wanted to research it

Simply because you’re thinking…

“This BYEU thing seems a little…vague…”

Wise call. Do your due diligence here.

Now, you’re in the right place. 👍

As I’ll give you an unbiased look.

A real Build Your Empire University review

Since Brodie didn’t pay me to write this

I can expose the elephant in the room.

I’ll get straight to the point.

No BYEU affiliate links here.

Nothing like “Oh it’s amazing!”

Like you see on TrustPilot

I ain’t selling you anything.

‘Cause I’m keeping it real.

Certainly no generic praise.

Just the facts. You and me.

Let’s get this thing started.

BYEU’s Secretive Marketing

You clicked on a Facebook/Instagram ad

And then you’re on to the training webinar.

Or your friend suddenly became inspiring.

With their stories of struggles to success.

That all seems a little….strange.

And so…what exactly is going on?

Well, BYEU teaches this strategy.

It’s their very catchy storyline

Leading to the finish line.

“And what’s the finish line?”

They’re selling you something…

A $7k to $12k Kangen water machine. 🙃

They’ll make a huge commission too.

The money part trips up some.

For some peeps, they’re good

They can afford to cough it up.

Dropping their hard-earned money.

All for a pricey water machine.

And a shot at online success…

But I’m worried about the rest.

They simply have nothing at all.

And might have to go into debt.

Especially in these desperate times.

Build Your Empire University Overview

The way this works is quite simple…

You’ll pay $99/month for the training.

(And the $1/trial is really great value)

All about building your own business.

And given I’m all for that lifestyle

I pulled out my card and joined:

Now after going through a lot of training

I found the BYEU lessons quite powerful.

Very inspiring, engaging and life-changing

And yet, I quickly spotted the catch.

Well, they have three catches actually. 😯

First…they aren’t a real online university.

Not meant to use the name in Australia.

You can do so in the US, but not here.

So they all might be breaking the law.

(Links to legal reference right here)

Second …they talk about business

But they don’t teach real business.

(They often use the word ‘career’)

Apart from the water alkalizer…

You won’t get to own anything. 😔

Nor actually build a real business

You’ll mostly be branding yourself.

That’s why it’s a membership fee

With you becoming a representative

As opposed to real business owner.

Like what other courses DO teach.

So you’re really a customer here.

Starting to make sense? Alright…

Third…(the most important aspect)

It’s Multi-Level Marketing a.k.a. MLM

They often call it Network Marketing.

Or they use the term ‘direct sales’

But it’s all the same stuff really…

They have uplines and downlines

Hence it’s multi-level all the way

Think of Amway, Herbalife and Avon.

But this is way better for commissions.

So yeah *those* things from years ago

We all thought they went outta fashion

But they’ve spawned into something else.

One leveraging social media and stories.

We were stuck then we got freedom!!!

As if their success happened overnight.

These stories sound quite convincing

And they do work really bloody well.

Hundreds are joining every month.

In order to start a new ‘career’ 🙃

“And what is their new career?”

Selling water machines for income.

Effectively, a health/new-age sales rep.

With an army of new recruits below you.

But let’s say you’re going to join it today

Then don’t go being upfront like me.

Don’t tell anyone BYEU isn’t a real uni

And say nothing about the machines.

You gotta stay really hush hush mate

I’m here to tell you why it’s like this.

Hiding The Facts

Have you felt like it’s all a bit hidden?

Like….they’re hiding what it really is?

That’s because MLM has a bad rap.

Many under 40’s are so unaware.

“Why do people hate on MLMs?”

As it’s known for lost friendships

Paired with a very high failure rate.

People have been burned by MLM.

Others feel a bit embarrassed by it all.

So if you’re going to promote Enagic

It’s best you hide what you’re doing

By promoting positivity and freedom.

With the big reveal right at the end.

Very few reps get success by being direct.

Don’t go saying “I’m in Network Marketing”

Or worse “Mate, we sell water machines”

Since aint nobody gonna join under you.

They’ll think it’s a pyramid or something.

So you’d better lead with inspiring stuff.

All over your Facebook and Instagram.

Make your friends super curious about it

You gotta write things like this often…

Woah…I love my new business…!!”

This has been going on for years

In MLMs that have gone under.

But…Build Your Empire University differs.

“Err…Wait…How is this different?”

Well, look…it’s quite simple.

It’s not a pyramid scheme.

(It looks like one, but it isn’t)

It’s not an MLM company.

Certainly not a scam either.

‘Cause it’s just MLM training.

Quite legitimate I might add.

All about sales and success

Plus self-help and psychology

But it leads into the actual MLM.

Which itself, offers the products.

(Those expensive water machines)

BYEU focuses a lot on recruitment

As opposed to the product sales.

So they can keep enrolling more

And hard to sue ’em for anything.

They really executed this well… 😄

I’ll give them some credit for that.

How It Works

When you join, you’ll be unpaid.

You can choose to promote BYEU

Which pays 30% trail commissions

Assuming people go past 7 days

And don’t apply for their refund.

But really, you won’t get rich here

As the big bucks are in Kangen

(I.e. $12k water machine package)

So you’ll be a commission-only rep

For a really old Japanese company

Who sell high-ticket water alkalizers

Now if you came up to me and say:

“Josh….that’s my childhood dream!”

Then I’d say…absolutely go for it! 👍

The best way to learn MLM is BYEU.

But we know MLM isn’t for everyone.

Now, you’ll only get paid on sales.

And then..just like every one else…

You’re given the ‘entrepreneur’ badge. 🙄

(This isn’t real entrepreneurship btw)

Which is a slap to real business owners

The ones who actually worked so hard

Often making sacrifices over 10+ years

To build a real and thriving family biz

Kangen reps aren’t real entrepreneurs

But many influencers borrow this term.

I guess it makes them sound…smarter?

When really, they’re just being recruiters.

Like a grown-up version of show ‘n’ tell

As the name of the game is enrolment

Straight to Enagic’s global MLM empire.

Oh and you gotta bring others in too 😉

By being *that* person on Facebook.

Doing like what your friend is doing…

Sharing your stories + photos online.

‘Cause it’s the way this scheme grows.

Building Real Businesses

I admire the momentum behind BYEU

The group is growing fast in Australia.

But…I love real online businesses more.

You know, the type you can sell for $300k

One you can be proud of building yourself

Without becoming so weird ‘n secretive.

MLM does have that sketchy reputation

They just aren’t real businesses for reps

‘Cause those who own it are in control.

(Those Asian dudes in business suits)

Not the reps. They’re just comms-only.

Still building up someone else’s empire.

It’s hard to go and sell their ‘business’

Although there is merit in pushing hard

To finally stop working for the man

The freedom to do what you want

And finding more time for the kids

Which is what most people aim for

Especially for the first-timer online.

Thus, joining this MLM has merits.

Much of the work has been done.

All you gotta do now is SELL it too.

(Both the machines and the lifestyle)

So don’t let my perspective stop you.

If it feels good to you then go all in.

(Seriously…don’t mess around here)

But I like to pause and question…

Does Enagic Have A Future?

Now – some people are really cynical

Like they’re way more critical than me

They’re researching BYEU like crazy.

So I created this two-sided perspective

One that respects both sides equally.

And I’ve got nothing to sell you here.

(I got more than enough on already…)

Look – I’m not against the reps on FB.

As they’re just new to the MLM game.

Nor am I against BYEU’s education.

Since it’s full of inspiring video content.

And certainly not against the machines

‘Cause…well… I actually own one… 😎

The business model really worries me.

And I’m really wary of its future viability.

‘Cause today, opportunity is everywhere

There are 70+ business models online.

The world has had some rapid change.

So with this, I hope I can inspire you.

Inspire you to do what others won’t.

Avoid the competition at the base.

Instead of selling water machines…

Aim for the hard stuff. Grind it out.

To build a real and thriving business

The type that takes 60 hours/week

Over 5 long years in the trenches.

10, even. Go put in those hard yards.

Building your own business empire. 📈

Which you can go ‘n eventually sell

For one big brag-worthy payday. 💰

Real businesses sell for millions

And that’s exactly what I’m building.

But…most fellow Australians….

Man…they just want easy peasy.

Or rather what appears to be easy.

They wanna hear things like:

“It’s just a plug and play system!!!”

So…eh… 🤷🏻‍♂️ What can I really do?

They’re attracted by this sorta stuff.

They just don’t know better either.

What’s Really Ahead

Now, you might be skeptical AF

But not everyone is this skeptical.

You know, recruits are buzzing

Super enthusiastic to get started.

Like…they really want to do this biz.

And maybe you’re actually keen too.

So here’s what’s ahead if you join…

Step 1: Go Through The Training

There are 100+ hours of content

(Which I think is a bit overboard…)

It’ll take some time to go through

Aim to do 10 hours over 10 weeks

The training is pretty affordable

Compared to others around town

(Like the $5k online courses)

I think the $99/month is alright.

Step 2: Buy a Water Machine

Now, to really be successful with this

You gotta fork out cash for the machine.

‘Cause really, the big bucks are here

$1k to $4k commissions on each 🤑

*BOOYAH*

From your friends or family who join.

Even from mum, if you’re that keen…

Now, if you don’t have the spare cash

Or you don’t wanna drop a fortune…

Then BYEU encourages financing

Yep, they talk about it in the training

You know…going into debt to buy it.

Credit cards and personal loans. 😩

At pretty high-interest rates too

Which might not sit right with you.

Step 3: Dress up Your FB and IG

Time to renovate your social pages.

You’ll need to delete photos from 2009

And replace them with inspiring ones

Of how your life has recently changed

Plus start crafting catchy stories

And how you found ‘the big thing’

While being really bloody excited. 😅

Don’t forget the new photos & freedom!

They call it: Attraction Marketing

I call it: A little too Insta-fake…ey.

Step 4: Chat With Friends & Family

The FB & IG posts drive conversations

Ideally, people will start inboxing you

Curiously asking how you ‘did it’

And ideally, how they can do it too.

It’s how many MLM reps do it today.

N’ this is where things get awkward.

They call it: Warming up leads.

I call it: Selling it to your friends.

Step 5: Start Banking It In

From here, you’ll need to start enroling

Invite them to Build Your Empire University

Keep touching base until they get in

Then get ’em buying a machine too

Just like you did weeks back

For those jackpot commissions! 💰

They call it: Enrolling others.

I call it: Awkward conversations.

Step 6: Spend Up On Facebook Ads

Once your friends have either said yes

Or have rejected this ’cause it’s MLM

(Hopefully, you’re still friends after…)

It’ll be time to start scaling this puppy up.

Since you’ll run out of peeps eventually.

That means paying for Facebook ads

Catch is though…MLM ads are banned.

Instagram and TikTok have similar rules.

Actually, it’s been like that for ages!

Since they can be quite annoying 😩

And the reputation of MLM isn’t the best.

So the scaling part may be challenging

But you’ll funnel them into BYEU first

To get around these platform rules.

That’s why Brodie Salnitro built this.

Smart…that’s really bloody smart… 😃

What Does BYEU Do Well

Look, most people never do the MLM.

A.k.a. the ‘business opportunity’ side.

To save their respected family name

And because of their own morals…

They’re cool with just the education.

Plus the community. Just awesome!

Both do receive my tick of approval.

You should really join for that part

As I really like that aspect of BYEU.

Now – you’ve read other reviews.

You know, on TrustPilot and FB

As they also rank high on Google.

People there seem so hypey

But so empty and generic

Like “OMG it’s amazing!!1”

So now, ask yourself…

Has anyone really made money?

Any real success stories out there?

I’m talking real profits here.

Me…I’m completely open. I’m Josh.

A real dude from Sunny Queensland.

One that blogs with brutal honesty.

Seeing both sides of the equation.

I aimed to write a balanced review.

As I’ve been doing for 12 years now.

One showing the real pros and cons

Not the generic videos out there.

So I didn’t want to knock BYEU. 🙂

‘Cause Ashley and Brodie are great.

And I ain’t got no hate on the training.

Brodie’s done a pretty damn good job.

I know he’s positively impacting lives

I felt really empowered by his training

But my inherent gripe still stands….

It’s just the business model itself

A 1993-model still exists in 2022

Even the machines look like 1993 lol

The world has changed a lot since.

Now, creating courses is hard work.

100+ hours of video tutorials & more.

The content is quite decent-quality.

A bit more refined than YouTube.

Now, the $1/trial is great value. 😃

It gives you a chance to see everything

To see if this is really the thing for you.

Most importantly…they’ve built a tribe.

The FB group has 3,700+ members

Mostly bogans from across Australia

And others from North America

All aspiring to change their lives now.

Heaps of daily discussions & inspiration.

Since you gotta hang with the right peeps

Though it’s hard to find real biz owners

As the FB group is 90% fresh recruits

Most didn’t read this review first 😲

But still…being in the right place is wise.

With a super supportive community.

Even if you don’t want to build this biz

His support network has immense value.

You might even find some lifetime friends

If this water thing doesn’t work out for you.

The type you can go 4x4ing/camping with

Or the big lap around Australia in a caravan.

Now, Brodie also teaches funnels and sales

Plus self help, success and copywriting

Skills that have real utility elsewhere

Like…to get a $75k/year online job.

Or create your own REAL business.

So it isn’t just MLM scheme training

Though that’s the underlining vision.

For $1 for 7 days, you can’t go wrong.

Ultimately

Brodie offers modern-day MLM training.

So you can make money off ya mates. 😉

(Bingo! The elephant in the room!)

This scheme has heaps of middlemen

But some people really believe in this

Precisely, they believe in the opportunity

More so than the product (Kangen)

Like what people did in Amway years ago.

Interesting concept, but not for everyone.

And so few are genuinely cut out for this.

We’re talking 1 out of 100 who like it.

And even fewer that achieve success.

(Earnings disclosure statement below)

Which explains the high dropout rate.

Plus #antimlm is such a trending topic.

As you’ll certainly find out pretty quickly

Your friends might become skeptical too

Making the next BBQ a tad…awkward. 😬

Just imagine these conversations…

“Ya still selling water machine things?”

Awkward, much? Will you regret it?

With eCommerce really trending big

And other things going gangbusters

MLM is slowly dying as a biz model.

Seems Ashley has worked this out

Hence why he has eCom brands

And I dare say Brodie will follow

While eCom has its challenges

MLM is simply harder for most.

And one that’s a little risky too…

Like World Ventures kinda folded

(They were huge on the Gold Coast)

And Mary Kay recently left Australia

So if Enagic starts to pack up shop…

Or the Federal Government stops it

(As BYEU isn’t a genuine university)

Or they block you for being negative

By questioning anything about BYEU

Then well….you might be toast… 😕

Comes with the territory I guess.

As you just don’t own the business

You aren’t putting in 5+ years of work

Now since I’m often a positive blogger

I’ll have to finish this on a high note…

If you’re committed to success now

Can create compelling stories that sell

And can handle rejection and frustration

Plus potentially losing a few friendships

(Or having some awkward BBQ banter)

While remaining steadfast on the journey…

To achieve their type of freedom lifestyle

To finally do the big lap around Australia

Through selling Enagic water machines.

Then jump off some real dude’s blog

And right into the $1/trial today. 👍

It’ll look like this when you join…

(Yes, I did join for this review!)

Now, you can just enjoy the lessons.

There is massive value in that alone.

Really life-changing for some people.

That’s the only reason I joined it.

But if you want to do the MLM biz.

Then buy yourself a water machine.

Even just for the hydration benefits

(The only reason I bought that too)

As opposed to the business side.

You’ll see firsthand if it’s worth it.

Phew! That’s me done.

Now – how did I go with this?

I wanted to give real, brutal honesty

Along with some light-hearted comedy

Australians can certainly take the piss

None of the “this is a scam” nonsense

As because BYEU isn’t all that bad.

(Hello you nameless trolls online)

Or the “I changed my life” rah-rah

That you see over on TrustPilot

And awkward Youtube videos

Since success doesn’t come easily.

You don’t suddenly wake up successful.

I aimed for the middle ground here.

But still, they might be super pissed

I haven’t checked socials for a while

But I imagine I have messages like:

“Josh, we ban you for telling the truth”

Ah yes, I forgot. We’re in 2023…

Where real honesty is now offensive.

Maybe they’ll even sue for this me too.

*insert a total face-palm moment*

LOL…Maybe they don’t quite get it?

5-star reviews aren’t always trusted.

That’s why people do their research.

People these days just want the truth.

Away from all that gloss on Instagram.

Away from the generic YouTube videos.

(Don’t those videos feel a bit fake?!)

They wanna get past the sugar coating.

And if they do, they’re more likely to join.

I still like BYEU and Brodie’s ambition. 😃

Helping normal tradies get off the tools.

You can tell he’s genuinely committed

He doesn’t mess around, that’s for sure!

Unlike 99% of the Australian population.

Let’s not forget turning his life around.

(The power of personal development)

Plus his community is full of legends.

Really encouraging & very supportive.

But the business model promoted…

Eh….not so much. Kinda old, man.

With a not-so-good reputation too.

This part will trip most people up.

But BYEU still has lots to offer you. 👌

Even if you don’t wanna sell the water.

(‘Cause yeah…most people feel icky)

His lessons have positively inspired me

Marketing, sales, psychology & success.

It’s worth the $1 trial for 7 days.

So you could cancel on Day 6 if needed.

They’ll even refund the dollar if you ask.

As for me – I’d gone beyond the $1 trial.

As the platform showed potential.

Maybe BYEU is the next Foundr platform?

And so I’m holding my breath for it

As hopefully they’ll teach more strategies.

So anyone can build a real empire.

And they can all move away from MLM…

For now, at least, their focus is on Enagic.

So if you’re afraid of some real gruntwork

And selling water machines is your dream

Instead of building a real Aussie business

Then get yourself started with BYEU now.

The best way to get others into Enagic! 👍

By promoting the Aus caravaning lifestyle

Paired with a supportive community.

Anyway, this was bloody fun to write. 🙂

I’ll see you out there!

Update December 2021: Enagic finally came out publicly with an earnings disclosure statement for the US market:

Rank# Sellers% SellersMedian $ Earned
1A13,74756.73%$285
2A4,10516.94%$680
3A1,4976.18%$1,445
4A1,7877.37%$2,464
5A9944.10%$2,814
6A1,4696.06%$5,710
6A24251.75%$13,159
6A2-2125.52%$27,666
6A2-357.24%$113,502
6A2-4200.08%$253,022
6A2-550.02%$515,088
6A2-630.1%$1,715,931
Source: https://www.enagic.com/en_AU/distributors-earnings-disclosure-statement
Note: The last row (6A2-6) includes higher ranks. This table isn’t a promise of earnings.

What can we learn from the report? The earnings are much lower than one would expect from all the motivational posts on Facebook and Instagram. 6A is considered an EPIC rank within Enagic. It’s the holy grail where you’re considered to have finally ‘made it’ that only a handful of people reach, but the average medium earnings are only $5,710/year. That doesn’t include the initial $4,980 outlay for the most popular K8 machine.

So based on this earnings table, assuming you buy the machine and DO make it to 6A (most don’t), you’re left with around $730 for the year after flogging your guts out on social media…and then the taxman comes knocking. 😕 Bloody hell. This doesn’t account for paying for BYEU, ads on social media or paying for the conferences either.

Brodie is certainly right when they say BYEU isn’t a get-rich-quick scheme and you’ll have to put your own money, time and work into it…and take a risk. He did, and it really paid off well.

Update December 2022: BYEU continues to recruit heavily across Australia. I did see a post somewhere claiming that Brodie is 6A2-2, meaning he’s on the median of $27,666 USD or $39,000 AUD per year with Enagic. The BYEU membership probably carries him into the 6-figure range though.

As with anything you could be doing online, you need to do your due diligence, play the long game and keep pushing bloody hard for the rewards. The choice to join this is ultimately yours, and I’m neither for nor against it.

Based on everyone’s hyper excitement on social media, paired with this data from Enagic, it’s obvious why many people on social media are skeptical AF.

One thing I can really praise is that, because of this BYEU review, numerous representatives have begun openly stating that they’re Enagic distributors on their social media pages, including Brodie himself. If you’ve chosen to be transparent like this then you’ve earned a ton of respect from me and the wider blogging community. 👍 And if you want to join BYEU, link up with those who are being upfront and honest with you. Ask them too if they’re willing to show income proof.
