TalentMed Review: Are Their Courses Worth It?

You’re doing your best to research TalentMed who provides medical job training online to students all across Australia. The question is: Are they worth it?

There are dozens of RTOs now providing this training to students. My #1 recommendation is to always use a company who has been doing this for a while.

I’ve previously been burned by such a company. They were offering cheap courses in order to get signups, but unfortunately, they were rubbish. Because of the power of my blog, I was able to get them to shut down.

For that reason, it’s very wise to do your research. 🙏

TalentMed Review

I decided to write my TalentMed review to give you an independent insight. That is – they don’t pay me a dollar to share my opinion right here.

I’ve examined hundreds of Australian training companies on my blog over the years. Most are great but some have significant room for improvement.

Now, there’s a unique edge with TalentMed. Their courses are designed to get you a job where you work from home. As someone who does work from home, it’s certainly a great lifestyle at times. On the other hand, it can be challenging.

Most people who do their training go on to become medical transcriptionists. This is very much in-demand right now and a position I can certainly endorse.

In fact, this role I featured prominently on my guide: 52+ work from home jobs in Australia. That’s a worthwhile read if you’re looking for something alternative.

Working on your own terms is very rewarding in my experience. My blog has inspired tens of thousands to build their own side hustle from home in the evenings.

Examining this RTO closely

I decided to go more deeply to look at this RTO and their accreditations. After all, you want to know if you’re dealing with a real company here that’s sticking around.

They have:

  • Nationally recognized training across all states and territories in Australia.
  • Membership with the Australian Council for Private Education and Training
  • A close following with the Australian Qualifications Framework

After this, I decided to check their details with the Australian Government:

This means that Talentmed has been operating in Australia since 2007. That’s 13 years now! Clearly they have been around for quite a while, unlike many which started yesterday.

What I also really like is their community support:

It’s clear that they’re very much into looking after the community. ☺️

The biggest drawback is the cost. They aren’t the cheapest in the industry, but it’s made up in their quality course materials. The RTO that burned me had very low pricing, so as a result, their training program was purely rubbish.

I do feel that TalentMed represents great value for money.

A solid opportunity

There are now thousands of people around the world employed as medical transcriptionists working from home. They all needed professional training prior.

So the course on offer from this company could very well set you up positively for the future. As someone that has been working from home for a while, it certainly has its benefits.

I’ve actually covered many opportunities on this blog. While having your own online business is a great model, so is having a job and working for someone else.

That is – as long as you get flexible hours. As a Medical Transcriptionist, this is often the case. Not everyone can manage the typical 9 to 5 schedule after all.

Then again, if you’re looking for scalable income where you could head into the 6 figures range, then consider building your own home-based business. 🙏

It does take more work and capital upfront but the payoff can be advantageous.

In summary

I really do like the training from TalentMed. The present as professional with years of experience. While not the cheapest out there, it’s made up in their quality.

And when you’re undertaking such an important task, you’ll want quality training.

For that reason, they are certainly worth it. Provided you feel this career is a good fit for you.

If I were a mum looking for a home-based business idea, then this is certainly one of the better roles. It’s a job more than a business, meaning your startup capital is much lower. It’s also easier to obtain finance for a home or car loan if you’re full time employed as opposed to self-employed.

I would recommend you get started with a course, either with TalentMed or any of the other RTOs in Australia. Then again, the training is going to take some time to get through. Start small and keep at it, as working from the laptop has been the best lifestyle decision I made. 😃

  1. Unfortunately, if you do fork out $4,500 to $6,000 for the TalentMed course, thinking you will become a medical transcription who is able to work from home and earn a sustainable income on which you can survive, then you will be scammed. The course boasts a placement rate of over 90%, so you are led to believe that if you pay the fees now and put in the hard work to pass, in the end, you’ll be earning an income and the fees will have paid for themselves before long.
WRONG! I was placed in a contract position. Sure. It was uncertain whether I would be paid fortnightly or monthly, both were stated in different documents. I eagerly transcribed and at around the 3-week month when pay was processed, with around 100 transcripts completed at that stage, I received the income earned for 3 weeks’ worth of my time. Let’s just say it was less than $60. To get paid, my transcripts need to be approved by the doctor and paid by the doctor. If the doctor doesn’t approve it, they get the benefit of the work and I don’t get paid. If the doctor is late in payment, I don’t get paid that month, even though I fulfilled my obligations. Of course, no one tells you that bit. As every transcript must be checked by someone before they go to the client, when you first start, I still have no explanations as to why half of my submitted transcripts have not been approved. And if you think there’s going to be an endless supply of transcripts to transcribe, there may not be. They were drip-fed to us. Sometimes a dozen would appear in the group inbox. You’d work on one and when finished, go to pick up another one, only to find that, despite the fact that no one else was working on any in the inbox when you started the last transcript, the rest of them have all disappeared. What you’re not told is how many other inboxes exist to which the bulk of the tasks are being sent and why those assigned to those inboxes are getting the opportunity to make money when you are not. You can waiting around for hours refreshing the screen to see if new tasks had popped into the inbox. Annoyingly, when they had, someone else had already picked them up and started working on them. And twice it happened when I had a long 7 or 8-minute transcript on which I could make $10-12, you go to check the spelling or a phrase on the internet and the timer that counts down, locking everyone else out reaches zero and before you know it, after spending 2 hours on the task, you return to the screen only to find the task has unlocked, you’ve been thrown out and another transcriptionist has taken over your task and stolen all of your work and the $10-12 you’ve spent 2 hours working for. The reason the course can boast such a good placement rate is, who stays in these jobs if you can only earn $20 per week and need to survive. No one, of course, and that is why you’re guaranteed to be placed in a job until you realise what the catch is, that you always suspected was there but couldn’t prove until you had wasted thousands of dollars in fees and a lot of time slogging your guts out to complete a challenging course at their required accuracy rate of 85%. In the end, you feel stupid, you feel cheated and you write it down to experience and go look for a job.
