Saturated Amazon Niches and Products for Those with Big Pockets

Beginners often ask me what are the most saturated Amazon niches on the marketplace. After all, they want to avoid the big boys in town.

Since when you’re starting off, you have such limited capital. You want to play small, and scale up your business over time.

But there are those with capital. Serious capital. 6 figures and beyond. They’re also starting on the Amazon journey, and they want to know the most saturated Amazon niches.

Where they can make the biggest profits in the shortest period of time.

Because where saturation lays, so does opportunity. Since there is a heck of a lot of traffic in the super competitive Amazon products. Profitable customers that will happily buy your products.

So if you’re wondering, every one of those overnight success stories on Amazon came from people who went into competitive niches. Real people with decent capital.

Today I’ll be showcasing some of those niches and products on Amazon that are highly competitive. If you’re in the 5% of people that has a lot of starting capital, then you’re going to love this!

Every niche has competition

Many people starting their journey to become a successful Amazon seller *hopes* to find that undiscovered product. Something that isn’t yet sold.

Like finding a new animal in the wild. It’s extremely hard to do, and almost impossible at times.

But Amazon courses have this great nack to sell you the dream. They’ll claim “We have this whizzbang strategy to find products that NO ONE is selling yet!!!”

Sounds cool. But more often than not, no one is selling those products, because there isn’t enough search volume. It’s risky to go into undiscovered territory. You know the quote: Pioneers get shot in the back. Or in other words, the 2nd mouse gets the cheese.

I like to be that 2nd mouse. I want to see what others are doing, then improve upon that product significantly. Soon enough I leave them in the dust.

Competition does vary between niches and products. It’s best to find something, especially if you’re starting with a limited budget, that doesn’t have too many competitors.

Saturated Amazon Niches and Products
Big profits are found in competitive niches on Amazon!

There is varying degrees of guidelines. Here is one example:

  • Competition is selling 5 to 10 units per day
  • No one has more than 100 page 1 reviews
  • Has more than 1,000 searches per month
  • Is a simple product that fits in a shoebox

I keep it simple, and that’s a basic metric I use. I don’t worry about BSR. That’s the ‘best-seller rank’ but I just call it a BS rank. It’s one of so many metrics, and varies massively between niches.

Let’s jump into that list you’re keen to read.

List of Saturated Amazon products

By no means is this an exhaustive list. In fact, I’ll update this over time.

But at a glance:

  1. Electrical hardware and tools such as power drills and accessories
  2. Fragile homewares such as wine glasses, dinner plates and bowls
  3. Outdoor camping equipment like tents, sleeping bags and chairs
  4. Pet beds and pet houses. Cat pillows are the #1 example product
  5. Children’s toys. This is dominated by million-dollar companies
  6. Exercise equipment, since health and wellness is very on-trend
  7. Bedding supplies, such as pillows, blankets, quilts and doonas

Doesn’t really leave much for the broke beginner, does it?

But then again, Amazon isn’t the right place (yet) for someone with such limited money.

Because the ongoing investment is so much. I’ve now poured $35,000+ into my Amazon businesses. There’s still more that needs to go in!

I see it as the 80/20 principle right there on Amazon. The top 20% of sellers are making 80% of the money. The most competitive 20% of products are where 80% of the profit lays.

So your Amazon business will require constant reinvestment over the first few years. For that reason, you need to stick at your day job. Don’t quit too early. You don’t want to use your Amazon business profits to live on.

In closing

If you’ve got the capital, then you need to look at the top end of town. Where the big boys are making their money.

I would still launch with just the one product to get the feet wet. As you gain some experience, you can launch further products.

Where you too can become another Amazon success story, because you had more capital than 95% of people. 😉 I’ve often see those with 6 figures and beyond hitting those 6 figure months in next to no time.

Yet if you’re beginner, you need $5,000 minimum, to even get started in a much less saturated Amazon niche. This is above the cost of your education. The type of education that can accelerate your learning curve, so you don’t have to figure out 1,000 things by yourself.

If you’re still looking, then this is my #1 recommendation for world-class Amazon training in 2019.

  1. I don’t really follow what you are getting at here. Are you saying that this is closed to new sellers with $5-10K in capital?

What do you consider a broke beginner? Someone with $5-$10K
you state ‘Yet if you’re beginner, you need $5,000 minimum, to even get started in a much less saturated Amazon niche’ So this to me implies a broke beginner.
But according to the course you promote they state you need $5-$10K. but the jist of what you are saying is that in my opinion from what I read is that you need a lot more to be successful. So then the course seems like a money grab promoting false hope. See the 14.20 mark on this video from Adam Hudson

    • Hi Shawn! Yes, you are right. Saturated niches are closed to new sellers with $5k to $10k in capital. You are much better off with less competitive niches as a beginner who has limited capital. The course does help people with limited capital get started and you can be successful over time as you reinvest your capital. I’m a good example of someone who has done this.

My article is for those beginners with a lot more than $5k. When I say “Amazon isn’t the right place (yet) for someone with such limited money” I mean those with less than $5k. Many people only have $1,000 to $2,000 in the bank account and it would be easier with Uber or Airtasker to build up some capital for now, before starting the Amazon journey.

      Hope that makes sense mate.
