Rovia and DreamTrips are apart of the WorldVentures travel platform which I was apart of about 7 years ago with mixed reviews. It isn’t a scam though.
The whole premise is simple:
- A friend or family member talks about a vague travel opportunity
- You’re set up for a presentation on how this could change your life
- Very soon you discover that Rovia and DreamTrips is based on MLM
- And that the best way to make money is through recruiting others
- So you decide to do some online research and find an ex-member (me! :-))
So I decided to unpack exactly how this works for you and what my legitimate experience was. Let’s begin.
DreamTrips Review
DreamTrips is the main product of the WorldVentures company. They are a network marketing company which some regard as a pyramid scheme.
Why pyramid? Because unlike many others, there isn’t really a physical product. It’s a membership you’re buying. The “You Should Be Here” Flags that you often see in travel photos on social media are something you need to buy separately based on my experience.
By joining, you get access to discounted travel packages. This way you can join other members on holidays and become part of the community. You can also get your friends and family to book their holidays through you and therefore you get a commission.
By far the easiest way to make money with this scheme is by signing up your friends and family. It’s heavily promoted at their regular conferences held across the United States, Europe and Australia.
The live events
What’s really impactful for members is the big conferences. Thousands of excited individuals go to these in the hopes of becoming successful.
Like genuinely – if you’re struggling to work out how to become successful, you should go to one of these. I went to a few and they were very impactful.
Because you’ll see the success stories. The people who made it. Those with stories of struggles and overcoming the challenges.
Sitting behind the computer is one thing. Getting to a DreamTrips live conference or merely going on a vacation or group trip is a great experience. The DreamTrips vacation club has very positive people to share a genuine travel experience with.
Certainly, the DreamTrips complaints and negative reviews don’t often stream at all from their live events. These are often lifechanging and inspirational.
The big challenge
Unfortunately, 98% of people never reach a job-quitting income with this scheme. It requires lots of work to become successful. Most people quit too soon.
At the live events, you’re reminded of the following:
- Never quit. If you do, then you aren’t successful. You won’t be cool.
- Reach out to your friends and family. It’s the easiest path for beginners
- Share all your cool photos of the “You Should Be Here” sign on social media
- Stay within the tribe and attend all the live events, webinars and training.
- Enrol, enrol and enrol some more. You need to get enrolling people.
It’s seriously hard work. Most people will say no to you which is the big challenge. If you’re not accustomed to hard work, then this will not end well for you.
I mean – it’s hard work to build any business. If you’re committed to putting this much effort into building a downline, then I’d recommend you actually build your own business.
In 2020, there are just so many awesome opportunities available online where you can still travel, but without the cheesy photos on social media.
Savings with Rovia
Rovia itself doesn’t really give much in the way of savings in my experience. I was sometimes just booking deals directly including flights.
We used the concierge service on occasions which was massively helpful to get things sorted. However, my AMEX card also provides the same now that I’m heavily involved with travel hacking.
WorldVentures, when it launched, was quite revolutionary and did provide genuine savings. Unfortunately, there are very price-competitive travel websites out there like SkyScanner which have since dominated the market.
As with most MLM schemes, you often do find better deals outside of the eco-system. WorldVentures actually got into a lawsuit regarding their compensation plan and revenue/commissions which weren’t paid to their top recruits.
DreamTrips scam
Easy the biggest question on people’s mind: “Is DreamTrips a Scam?” and I’ll answer that:
DreamTrips isn’t a scam. They are apart of the WorldVentures network marketing company whose recruits legitimately recruit friends and family into the scheme for commissions. DreamTrips itself is their travel packages which provide some moderate savings to members.
As they have been in operation for 15 years, it’s clear that they have solid traction as a company. I was also a member of the WorldVentures brand for a few years with a previous partner.
Their legitimacy is questioned based on being arguably a pyramid scheme. There is no physical product exchanged unlike others such as Amway.
Online business in 2020
Network marketing as a distribution model is perfect for company owners. They don’t need to pay their distributors a salary until they’re actually performing.
For the recruits, unfortunately, it’s not a good deal in most cases. You’ll have to pay to join and most never generate enough revenue to make it worthwhile.
Only about 25% of those it surveyed made a profit with MLM, 27% broke even, and about half of them lost money.
THe AARP Foundation
It seems only 1 out of 100 people ever make any decent income with DreamTrips or any network marketing scheme. Now with a lot of work and commitment, you too can be just as successful.
But then I wonder, with so many opportunities to make an online income today, why not just build your own business? MLM was the perfect side hustle in the 80’s and 90’s.
In 2020, I believe you just have far greater opportunities available.
And as for travel hacking, it’s something I highly recommend! 🙂 Return international business class for pennies on the dollar.
In summary
DreamTrips, WorldVentures and Rovia are good if you want to build a travel business in the MLM industry. Unfortunately, it isn’t anywhere near as a good opportunity as it used to be.
All these companies have a groundfloor and growth phase. If you’re late to the station, then the train may have already left. I got on the train early but got off at the next station since I didn’t feel the company would be the perfect fit for the life I envisioned. I wanted to build real businesses.
Today I continue to build such businesses without needing to chase friends or family.
