Online Retail Mastery (Beau Crabill) Review

If you’re looking to sell on Amazon, then this review of Beau Crabill’s Online Retail Mastery is for you. It’s a coaching program that educates you how to sell on Amazon as a wholesaler for the big brands.

On a personal note, there’s no business relationship between Beau and myself. I simply want to share my thoughts and opinions as an Amazon seller who makes a full time income. I wish more people were as open and honest as I am on the blog, the world would be a better place.

Let’s get into it…

Online Retail Mastery review

The course is good. You’ll learn how to work with the authorized suppliers that are supplying already to big retail stores such as Target, Wal-Mart and Best Buy. You’ll then (hopefully) be able to get approved to sell these on Amazon, right alongside the big brands.

For me – I like this approach. The retail arbitrage game was going to be short lived anyway with brand restrictions and cease & decease letters flooding the market due to bad sellers. This way there’s no sneaky business – you’re approaching these brands directly. If they won’t want to work with you, then simply move on.

It’s wise to research mentors such as Beau Crabill

Big brands are easier to sell. They’ve been in the market a long time. That said, you’ll get more profit through private label. A lot more profit. And you’ll learn how to build your own real sustainable brand that you can potentially sell for 7 figure profits. But more on that later.

The course content

There’s a lot to gain from the course in terms of its content. This includes:

  • Setting up your business
  • Finding the right suppliers
  • Listing your products on Amazon
  • Sending your products to FBA
  • Become an authorized reseller
  • Dealing with different types of suppliers
  • Effective sourcing the right way
  • Deciding on the right products to sell
  • Building long term business relationships
  • Getting unrestricted in Amazon categories
  • Taking your business to 7 figures
  • Accounting and sales tracking

There’s actually much more. Beau presents this all in video format. His dad was actually an eBay Powerseller like me back in the day, and this is how Beau got his first taste of success. So the content is based on 10 years of experience in this eCommerce game.

Some of the videos were a little outdated and could do with a refresh. Some I wish were explained more simpler, as Beau sometimes made some concepts more complicated than what they are. I like to keep things simple. But on the whole, it is a good course for those looking to do online arbitrage through becoming an authorized reseller.

Upsides to Online Retail Mastery

There are some good advantages towards taking the course that Beau is allowing beginners to access. This includes:

  1. The videos are of good quality
  2. Beau’s been in the business for 10 years
  3. This particular strategy is solid
  4. The high costs keep competition away
  5. It’s done the right way with authorization
  6. There’s some good testimonials out there

There’s other advantages too, but I’ll keep this one short. Remember: I like simple.

Downsides to Online Retail Mastery

Yes – I had to add some negatives to Beau Crabill’s Online Retail Mastery course in this review. Otherwise it wouldn’t be real.

These include:

  1. Wholesale requires a lot of money
  2. The authorization process takes time
  3. You’re often competing with brands directly
  4. Sometimes it’s a race to the bottom on price
  5. Seasonality often affects sales performance
  6. Most brands will politely decline you

No real downsides to the course but the strategy itself in question.

The last point is important. It’s not that easy to do wholesaling and get approved with an account. Most brands simply don’t want to hear that you want to sell on Amazon.

With private label, you won’t have that restriction, though some other logistics challenges that can be overcome.

Alternatives to Beau Crabill

There’s one massive alternative to Beau Crabill. That happens to be Larry Lubarsky (@watchmeamazon) and his course is extensive. He makes a shit ton of money on Amazon already, so much so that he doesn’t want to launch a course.

Update December 2019: Larry now has a course too and it’s awesome!

Some people make a little bit of money, then a lot of money selling courses. Not Larry. He’s the real deal. Best part? He gives away 90% of his content through YouTube and Instagram. He’s got a solid reputation in the market for this reason.

Another worthwhile alternative is the private label path. You’ll get bigger profit margins, full control of the product, and the exclusive rights to sell it anywhere. You can lodge a Cease and Decease letter if you see anyone selling your own item online, provided you’ve got a Trademark and Patent.

Then again, we know Amazon courses are big business. I know a dude with a full A to Z course which is free.

Given the choice between private label and wholesale, I prefer private label. I like the ownership factor, and that I can easily sell my business. It’s simply less complicated, though you will have to deal with China. This isn’t as hard as what many others make it out to be.

But I don’t want to give this illusion that wholesale is bad. It’s a very good strategy actually, and much better than retail or online arbitrage. The strategy has been around for years, though it has some decent competition and most brands don’t want to talk to you. At least that has been my experience and that of many people that I know.

Please only choose 1 strategy to run with. You won’t find success with 2 strategies. It’s wise to only invest in 1 course as well so that you have money remaining for inventory. Cash is king as they say.

Conclusion

Beau’s a great guy. I do like his Amazon big brand content and course. It isn’t as easy as it is portrayed. I mean, it never is in business. Even online. There’s always going to be challenging.

The course is good and well structured. It could do with an update, but the core will help you get started today on the wholesale journey the right way. As long as you’re prepared with the right mindset to see this through.

You need the grit and determination to work through the hurdles. Only the strongest will survive in this online space. I hope you have the drive and determination to build a full-time income through online business as I have. Twice.

I look forward to seeing you on the beaches of the world.
