The Motivation Manifesto Book Summary

20-Word Summary: The Motivation Manifesto is a powerful book that helps us discover our personal power, reclaim our personal lives and start charging forward.

Brendon Burchard has written numerous books and this is the most popular with strong reviews and many other book summaries. I’ve just read this now in 2020, several years after it was originally launched!

Brendon Burchard’s Motivation Manifesto Summary

The book literally sat on my desk for months as a prop to hold up my LCD screen.

I had received this book as a gift. Given that I don’t generally cherish the things that I get for free, it would’ve generally been given a life-sentence on my bookshelf and never be read.

However, it had a purpose. And as it was in my face, literally, for 40 hours per week, I decided to open it up when I was done with endless typing on this blog.

(I mean really – we all need a break. Working from home is actually tiring!)

And clearly – I should’ve read it a lot sooner. So much wisdom NOT taken from other gurus, but instead original content. The sort of advice I haven’t seen in a Tony Robbins seminar.

We’re talking about a roadmap. A manual. A process that you can follow properly, as opposed to being motivated for 5 minutes before reverting back to your original self.

Key lessons

Between fear and freedom lays motivation. It’s the thing that either gets you up in the morning or keeps you in bed for hours, scrolling endlessly through social media.

If you use motivation, you can knock out fear in order to reach freedom.

But how? With full presence and personal power. That is – moving away from the shy and reclusive self and into a raging bull ready to take on the world.

And that begins with planning. For me personally – daily planning really moved the needle for me early in 2020. I can highly recommend the BestSelf Journal (no affiliate link) which got me reclaiming my days.

With planning, you’ll have a clearly defined direction. With that direction, you can make consistent progress not just daily, but weekly, monthly and yearly.

One of the best things about the BestSelf Journals is that they come with a wall calendar. This way you can’t ignore the reality of what needs to be done.

The challenge for most people

Fear. It’s the evil that inhibits our life. We’re haunted by this thing that stops us, despite the fact that it doesn’t physically exist in the material life.

I go into deeper detail about this in my Outwitting The Devil summary, where humanity is enslaved by merely drifting in life with no real direction. Many of these people are in the western world with opportunities surrounding them, but with limitations that hold them back.

Brendon Burchard suggests that we need to defeat these demons. An endless cycle of fear that holds us back from a life of freedom and fulfilment.

Breaking through

The breakthrough with this book is typical of personal development books that I’ve previously summarized.

We need to approach the world with appreciation, love and inspiration. But not from a wish-washy ‘hippie in the words’ type of approach, but from a raging-fire perspective.

And how?

Be the lion. Someone that wakes up in the morning and is hungry. That powers through the challenges that life throws at us, instead of succumbing to the reality fo the situation.

Who is The Motivation Manifesto for?

I’d recommend this for someone needing that boost in their life. If you’re happy where you are, then this isn’t for you.

That is; if you’re happy with average, then this isn’t for you. You’ll be frustrated with the advice that Brendon Burchard brings forth and gain little from this.

If you’re happy with massive progress, then this isn’t for you. You’ll realize that you’re already on the pathway and will gain very little from this.

The perfect reader is:

  • The early-stage business builder who needs clarity on how to show up every day.
  • The frustrated corporate worker waking up to the many online business opportunities
  • Anyone who finds Tony Robbins either overwhelming or simply repetitive.

This is the field manual if you’re ready to follow a roadmap towards extraordinary.
