Why MLM in Australia takes too long!

I’ve been curious for a long time as to why it takes too long in Australia for an MLM distributor to reach a reasonable level of Success. Recently I cracked the ‘code’ and wanted to explain my reasoning to help people who are struggling in their home based business opportunity.

Lets start off with some simple truth: 97% of people who join MLM companies don’t actually make any real money. And when I say real money, more than $200/month. And those 3% of people, 97% of them aren’t likely to hit a full time income. And to add to the misery, it takes 3 to 5 years for the average person to quit their job and live off the income that they’re generating from their new home business.

It’s obviously very hard for someone who is ‘fresh’ with no Australian network marketing experience to simply hit the ground running. The odds are clearly stacked against newcomers, and it takes years in the industry to finally breakthrough. Most will quit however and never recoup their initial investment.

Why is this so? It’s simply because we live in an age where we want everything NOW. Anything that takes too long is definitely not something we want to associate with. Deep down inside almost all of us want some level of success, but if it takes too much work, then we’re happy to go back and slave away at our jobs. How fun. So after joining the latest network marketing company in Australia with plenty of excitement of how ‘this will change your life’, we get excited yet never actually follow through and after a few weeks or months, we’re never heard from again. Same goes for the people you recruit.

So what is the solution? It’s best to choose a company that people actually need and will stick around for a long time. One example is ACN. My straight forward disclaimer is that I’ve never been with ACN and refuse to join, however I have been prospected 14 times by people and have been to meetings. The people who have joined have recruited people, and most of them are still generating income for their sponsor 2 or 3 years later. Unfortunately, their pay structure gives you peanuts. Literally. With the amount of work you put in, you’d actually create a better income in a traditional business (and you’d be able to sell it too!).

The ultimate solution I feel is to join a direct sales company. Some of you are probably loathing right now, but I’ll explain. With most direct sales companies, you can earn commissions of $1,000 up to $5,000 per distributor that you sign up. Heck, I’ve found a program that pays up to $15,000 per distributor UPFRONT. Crazy isn’t it? This constitutes a significantly high lifetime value per customer. Compare this to traditional network marketing in Australia where the average income from your distributors is $100 if you’re lucky. Plus, you don’t really have a ‘home business’ if you have to keep running to Tuesday night meetings and frequent coffee shop/hotel appointments.

Clearly, joining MLM in Australia and reaching a full time income is becoming very difficult nowadays as the internet expands our reach to an international market. Therefore, we need to adapt and create resilience in changing times. And online direct sales I feel creates a much stronger return on investment than traditional network marketing down under.
