They haven’t dealt with staff issues or growth problems. Perhaps they’ve taken a course or been through uni. Then suddenly they are a ‘fully qualified business coach’ 🙄 or, in otherwise, a disaster waiting to happen. Or a bull shark in the canals looking for breakfast, that is….your bank account.

Then there are those who have run a business of their own in the past. One business. That’s it. Then they buy a ‘coaching franchise’ and start prospecting business owners. You know: in a completely different industry. Again, next to no idea.

After all, business coaching has limited downsides and massive upsides. You can ‘churn and burn’ your way through business owners. You know: promise the world and delivering so little. Business coaching is near-on 100% profit margins, much unlike a real business which has massive overheads.

Finally, we have the diamonds. Those who have built multiple businesses. Those who have failed, too. Because they learn a shit-load through failure. In particular, they should have at least 1x 7 figure exit. My own Gold Coast business coach has 2 million-dollar exits, with his 8-figure exit due next year.

The diamonds are those who you should follow. Very hard to find but should be kept for a lifetime of value. 👍 After all, they have real results as opposed to false promises.

The right client-mentor fit

I believe that you need to be the ideal client, and they be the ideal business mentor. This is going to maximize your results and help you scale faster.

So, let’s example what exactly what Phil, my local business coach, looks for:

• You need to be ambitious. He’s not looking for tyre-kickers here. If results and growth in your business is important, but you’re also willing to do the work, then this is might be a fit. 7 or 8 figure business aspirations only.
• You need to be coachable. Don’t be an askhole. You know – the type of person who asks for everything, then does the complete opposite. Phil helps create a plan with you, and you stick to that plan. Phil is a systems and processes person.
• Lastly, you already need solid progress. Phil isn’t for beginners. You’ll need to be earning a least $200k per year to be accepted. Serious. See – Phil doesn’t need your money, because he makes a fortune with his existing business interests. So he can choose to only work with those who want to get into the right lane and accelerate.

Phil has results in business. Phil is still in business. He hasn’t bought a ‘business coaching franchise’ to cold call business owners on his ‘whizzbang system’ that he learned from a weekend seminar. Nope, not at all.

He isn’t cheap either. Nor does he see you often. Once or twice per month for lunch. This makes it a very expensive lunch-date, or a very cheap one, depending on which way you look at it. For me – an absolute bargain.

I expect Phil will make me an additional $300k next year. See, this aint an expense but an investment, and one that will pay me dividends for years.
