About Me
I’m Joshua Smith from Australia. I have been building profitable content sites since 2011.
Today, in addition to managing my own portfolio, I actively help others on their journey.
Where is EDGE Of The Outback located?
The farms that EDGE Of The OUTBACK films on are undisclosed to protect the privacy of the farmers who own livestock there. However, they are located in the Upper Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia.
Nathan either gets permission from land holders, or most recently, gains contracts for pest eradication. This permits him to own a Cat. D which are hard (or near-impossible) to obtain otherwise.
He doesn’t run ‘tag-along’ tours for his audience as he wants to keep his online life and offline life seperated. He cares about his privacy, much like other YouTubers.
How much does EDGE Of The Outback make and how?
Based off channel metrics, I’m estimating that EDGE Of The OUTBACK earns $17,000 per month on YouTube. That’s a 6-figure income while doing what you love!
However, that’s only come recently and he was balancing YouTube on the side with his full-time job as an engineer during the week, plus the occasional weekend marathon.
Nathan is one of the lucky few that has turned his YouTube content into a full-time job. That said, it isn’t easy as has to do a ton of editing after a weekend of filming. Let’s not forget the big cost into scopes, filming equipment and other gear along the way.
Anyway, he achieves these remarkable numbers through:
➜ Patreon (go and support him there, it’s well worth it!)
➜ Affiliate links to products he uses and recommends
➜ Occasional brand sponsorship deals (moreso in the way of receiving products for big discounts, or even free)
➜ YouTube ads, although I think he was demonetized like most people in this category
Nathan is definitely treating his channel like a real business and deserves every dollar he makes, in my opinion.
Creator Praise
Many can relate to Nathan because:
➜ He doesn’t have that typical ego of a hunter
➜ He practices widely-accepted principles for humane pest eradication
➜ His filming, editing and humor are combined perfectly
➜ He even shows us his outtakes and lessons learned
He’s also doing something that many of us would love to do, and almost feel that we’re right there beside him!
Creator Red Flags
He hasn’t really upset anyone apart from the vegans.
Although using a .308 on mice is next level hectic! 😆
Other Channels
Nathan is my favourite channel, but I also watch:
➜ Mark and Sam After Work
➜ OzzieMan Reviews
➜ Stu on his kayak
➜ Pig Brig and Jager Pro
Definitely recommend those channels!
My Verdict
Clearly, I hold a ton of admiration and respect for Nathan’s journey and rise to popularity on the platform. It hasn’t been easy navigating all of YouTube’s policies, but he’s done well to bring the sport to the masses and do so much for the industry. I look forward to shaking his hand one day!
