There is plenty of Amazon FBA courses out there including Ben Donovan and his Amazon Masters program. But is it worth it compared to free courses?
That’s an important question to ask. A more important question is: Are you willing and able to commit to the FBA journey? Because there are a lot of shiny objects around.
As I’m entering the UK Marketplace, I was looking for a specific marketplace course that could help me understand more about the nuances of the UK.
Ben Donovan doesn’t have many reviews about his Amazon Masters course, unfortunately, but I still wanted to research and look more into it.
Ben Donovan: My thoughts
So I’ve been following a lot of Ben’s content on YouTube for quite some time.
Like 5 months actually. He hasn’t got that many subscribers, but I’m one of them.
I like his communication style. It’s very clear-cut and straight to the point.
And we actually share a lot in common. You know – trying out all sorts of things.
Most importantly, he shares a lot of stuff for free. For example, this one:
It’s pretty obvious that he just wants to share great content, just like me.
I like this his video thumbnails aren’t so click-baitey like many others out there.
(You know what I mean, right? Like shock-horror videos designed to draw you in)
Ben Donovan takes a more professional approach to his tutorials and presentation.
And he likes to do long-form content for Amazon’s United Kingdom marketplace.
So you’ll see this emulated well in his paid course called Amazon Masters.
Quite clearly, one of the best YouTubers out there sharing the good stuff.
Amazon Masters Review
Let me begin by saying that I’ve already taken a fair few Amazon course.
And look – a lot of them are actually great. You do need to take one.
Because I’ve reviewed a lot of them on the blog, I know what they should contain.
This gives me the position to fairly evaluate the Amazon Masters FBA UK course.
Since you’re looking to get started, but you’re not quite sure yet if you should do it.
Like…is it worth it? Especially when there is a popular Amazon course now free.
Like all the steps are in that one. A full 90 videos of excellent FBA content.
But I just *had* to take a look at Amazon Masters, so let’s unpack the modules.
The introduction and warm-up module. It gives you a chance to stretch a bit.
Immediately we can see one big difference right away: The video content.
In Ben’s YouTube videos we’re used to longer videos. He does talk a lot after all. 😅
It’s a decent change here: The videos are much shorter, like bite-sized content.
5 to 10 minutes generally. This flow extends to most of the other modules as well.
It’s really just the basics in Module 1:
- How Fulfilment by Amazon actually works
- What private labelling actually means
- Company registration and insurance
Really the basics that all other courses have too.
This is a setup module and nothing to do with looking at products to sell.
It’s a short module too and should be merged with Module 1 in my opinion.
A unique thing is that Ben covers the difference between Amazon UK and US.
Few courses go into this distinction. Many sellers assume they are the same.
Expect to take a few more notes than you should have in Module 1.
I was a little taken back by the length of this Module. Like, it’s a bit short.
In this one, Ben talks about how to find the right niche for your products.
The thing is though, following this module is an entire one on research.
So he could have combined this one into Module 4. But anyway…
Module 3 is less than 10 minutes long. It’s a good one for taking some notes.
This is the big one! In fact, the most important part of the course: Research.
It’s extensive and well worth it. I counted about 4 hours of content in here!
I mean…so worth it for the course alone. So much analytical content here!
Like this Module itself is worth the price that you pay for the entire course. 👊
Settling down now, here’s what you get:
- Finding products which are in solid demand in 5 different ways
- Calculating profit margins so you’re always getting a healthy ROI
- Building your product pipeline with a proper brand surrounding it
- What products do well and which ones should be avoided entirely
This is the time to fill that notebook up. I wouldn’t binge-watch here.
See you really gotta be active when going through Amazon Masters content.
It isn’t YouTube, right. It’s a serious business that requires your attention.
Ben Donovan has built his course for action-takers that want real results.
So even in the course, you need to be taking action (even if it’s just writing notes)
Because I see too often people buying these courses for the ‘feel-good’ feeling.
You know, they actually won’t want to do the work. The work starts with the course.
Anyway, rant over…this is clearly the best module in Ben’s Amazon training.
In this module, Ben talks about brand building. This is something I really applaud.
As I said, you gotta take this Amazon business building thing seriously. It’s real.
And most courses actually don’t cover this content that well actually. Ben does.
He talks about building a brand centred around a relatable group of products.
Further in this module, he goes into trademarks, social followings and websites.
So clearly less of a “Get something to throw on Amazon” type of approach.
Because you gotta take this seriously after all. (Haven’t I said that before… 😅)
This is another good module all about sourcing in China properly.
And look, I’ve been through this content before with other courses.
It’s much the same actually. Where to source, what to ask, how to order etc.
So like I’m not disappointed at all here. All the basics are here in this Module.
You might be a little bored. It’s just not as engaging as the last module.
That said – it’s an important step in the Amazon journey. You gotta do it!
This is why you take a course. No one on free YouTube videos is teaching this.
Like if you screw up your barcodes, then it’s game over. You need to take a course.
Ben talks about price negotiation here but personally I don’t do that at all.
Because often Chinse factories then lower the quality. It’s not good.
I’ve noticed a lot of other Amazon courses saying the same thing too.
But meh…each to their own I guess. It works for them. 😃
I won’t lie to you – you’ll be a little bored in Module 7 of Amazon Masters.
While this one is only like 30 mins across 7 or 8 videos, it’s all about shipping.
He covers some technical stuff called Incoterms and cargo planning.
And look – you just gotta be aware of this stuff. Just the basics is alright.
You don’t need to memorize anything: I give you permission to binge-watch here. 😅
Right at the end, Ben talks about how to arrange a shipping plan.
You know – how to get your products off to Amazon. It’s a good one actually.
Building a high converting Amazon product listing is a sure-fire way to success.
The thing is: It’s damn hard to learn this through free YouTube videos.
I’ve said this more than once: You need to buy a course to learn this stuff.
That’s why you buy something like Amazon Masters. It’s a blueprint.
And so in Module 8, Ben starts with how to make a listing properly.
All the way up to maximizing the returns on that listing through reviews.
He’s all about optimizing based on data which increases overall conversions.
One of the best modules on Amazon product listings I’ve see yet.
When you’re new to Amazon, you’re the new kid on the block.
And being the new kid isn’t easy. No one knows you. Like your 1st day at school.
For that reason, you want to launch successfully. This Module is about launching.
It’s not a big module at all, about 90 minutes in total, but it’s a good one.
He uses the discount and coupon code strategy which is in many other courses.
But also has updated a lot of this content, since Amazon keeps changing rules.
The best part is that Ben shows multiple Amazon product launch strategies.
So you can pick the best one based on your budget and comfort level.
The thing that differentiates this course a bit from the others is the brand building.
Because what you want to do is not just sell some products on Amazon for profits.
Like it should be much more than that, especially if you want to sell the brand.
So what you want to do is build an audience around the products you’re selling.
The best part? These days you can do this right on Amazon as Ben teaches.
So you don’t really need to get your products into Shopify and Instagram yet.
From my experience, getting a UK trademark is relatively cheap and low cost.
And this is covered well in the course. It’s one of the 1st things I’d recommend too.
Why? This gives you access to Brand Registry. From here your brand is protected.
Since hijackers love brands which have nothing protecting them and will copy you.
Again…just another reason to do a course. You won’t find this on YouTube.
Boom! Loved this module because it’s all about cashflow management.
Because you gotta treat this like a real business, man! Like profit/loss statements.
It’s clear that Ben Donovan takes the financial aspects very seriously in this course.
The best part is that he uses Xero. That’s what I use for my 2 FBA brands too.
He also recommends NOT taking out your profits. Wise move, young padawan.
Since you want to keep compounding your business growth for months or years.
Try to stick in your job or existing business as long as you can. Fuel your business.
Taking out that profit is a sure-fire way to stall your growth and trajectory.
You heard that from me. I made that mistake early on. Never again!
When you’re building a business, you’ll be hit with some headaches.
One of my mentors says “Money goes to those who can handle headaches”
And that’s completely true! The more challenges you have, the better it will be.
Because this isn’t an easy journey. It’s damn hard at times on Amazon FBA.
But I tell you what: It’s absolutely worth it. Wouldn’t change it for the world!
From hijackers to infringement notices and negative seller feedback, it’s here.
All part of the journey. Something you’ll have to deal with eventually.
Luckily, Ben has you covered with all his excellent content in this module.
The great thing about Amazon FBA is that you can sell in multiple markets.
Like if you don’t want to sell in the UK Marketplace, you can go to the US.
It really doesn’t matter so much where you live. You’ll never see your products.
Choosing Amazon UK or USA is always the best way to go, or India/Europe.
I wouldn’t recommend Amazon Australia. I live here and it’s a weak market.
And for most of Ben’s students, they will stick for years on 1 single marketplace.
You don’t need to venture out further unless you have the capital available.
But good to know that this is included as part of the Amazon Masters program.
This could actually be included in the previous module. Maybe. Or maybe not.
Ben is about systems and processes, just like me. I got my systems down pat!
That all starts with a business plan. Like…what are you selling and why?
More importantly: Who is your ideal target audience for your products?
That sort of stuff is very important you know. Especially if you want to sell.
In this module, Ben looks at the structure for your business early on.
This way you can make it attractive to future investors and buyers.
Ever heard of the “team makes the dream” analogy? That’s entirely true.
You’re going to need to hire for your Amazon business at some stage.
I’m just about to do it actually. There are just so many moving parts.
And so Ben is all about finding, hiring and training your staff members.
So they can do things in your business better than you can, for less.
Not only that, he talks about project management and team integration.
It’s a pretty good module actually, even if you’re nowhere near this stage yet.
A little disappointed here at this being called a Module. Sorry..but I am.
It’s really just a few videos that could easily be put into other modules.
Like how to get capital and how to open up multiple selling accounts.
He even talks about travel hacking. I love travel hacking too, but meh.
This could all be in somewhere else in the course Ben. Like really.
Then again…a total 1st world problem. 😂 I’ll get over it I’m sure.
Amazon businesses are hot right now. Like…really hot news.
Not only to start but more importantly to buy one. It’s a seller’s market.
Like you could start an Amazon business and sell it for 6 or 7 figures.
That equals an early retirement. The upfront cost makes it worth it.
Like the price of your trademarks, patents and starting today.
You know…like your education. Trust me: It’s worth it.
Ben talks in this module about structuring to sell your business.
Not only that but calculating the price you should expect to get.
And even if you don’t want to sell, I’d recommend this module.
It’s quite motivating actually to see what you could potentially get.
Now that all begins with you starting on this journey today.
Amazon Masters: Content summarized
This is one very good course. Apart from modules which could be merged, it’s a great course.
What you’ll find evident is that Ben Donovan clearly has marketplace experience.
So much so, that I would say Amazon Masters is one of the best Amazon UK courses around.
It’s built as both beginner-friendly but also for the person who will treat this like a real business. Because that’s exactly what is on offer right here.
Your chance to get started today on a 10,000 mile journey, right now, today.
He doesn’t promote this as easy, and neither will I. For that, he gets my respect.
Also, expect challenges to come your way, both now and into the future.
More importantly, you will need some starting capital.
And for some people, that’s a real challenge.
Unless someone like me had a solution.
Free Amazon course alternative
The thing about this YouTube Amazon thing is the courses. They’re expensive.
And the thing is: Some people are making a bucket-load of money from them.
I know it, you know it, and they know it too. We all know it! It’s a big business.
Like you could pay up to $5,000 for an Amazon course. And many people do!
The thing is: You could learn Amazon much more cheaply these days.
Ben Donovan is one great example. Finally! An affordable Amazon course.
Like really: Amazon Masters is one of the cheapest FBA courses overall.
But do you know what’s even cheaper? A free course. Yep…100% free.
One created by an industry veteran. A dude with 20 years experience.
In fact, he’s got 4 brands and 8 figure results. Like a digital Yoda. 😎
He woke up one morning and decided to do something revolutionary.
“Here’s my course. The full A to Z. I want to make it 100% FREE”
Yep – the entire lot. 90+ videos. A full training program.
That’s gonna save you a lot of money for your 1st order.

Summary of Ben Donovan’s offer
Ben Donovan has created one special Amazon UK course which I praise.
It’s not the only one out there, but certainly one of the best.
Plus it’s quite affordable too. The pricing is lower than most others.
For that reason, I rate it quite highly in this review. He’s done very well!
So it is worth it? Absolutely. It’s way more than his YouTube content.
Then again, you’ll still need to pay for some software as well each month.
That’s going to help you find the gold on Amazon: Those winning products.
And if you get some world-class software, it has a full A to Z course.
Like it’s got everything you need for the US marketplace.
Heaps of videos, study guides, handouts and more.
